Why Excavator Serial Numbers Matter for Parts Matching
How machine serial data separates configurations that share the same model name and supports more reliable parts matching.

The excavator model identifies a machine family, while the serial or product identification number identifies a specific production configuration. Two machines with the same model can use different pumps, controllers, engines, travel devices or undercarriage parts. Send a readable serial-plate photo plus the typed model and serial number; for engine or major hydraulic parts, also send the engine or assembly identity.
Distinguish model, serial and assembly identities
The full model includes generation and suffix information, such as PC200-8 rather than PC200. The machine serial number helps locate the production range, while the engine model and major assembly codes identify components that may have been sourced separately.
Record each identifier from its own plate and do not combine characters from different labels.

Know which parts often change by serial range

Protect serial information from transcription errors
Take a square, high-resolution plate photo and type the characters in the RFQ. This allows the supplier to search the text while keeping the photo available for verification.
If corrosion or glare hides a character, do not guess. Mark the uncertain position and provide additional machine and component photos.
