Excavators carry several identification numbers, and they do not all identify the replacement part. The machine model describes a product family, the serial number identifies the machine configuration, and the engine model identifies the engine family. A number stamped on the old component may be an assembly number, a subcomponent number, a casting number or a supplier code.
Copy every number exactly, including spaces, dashes and suffixes. Do not remove a final letter because it looks unimportant. A suffix can identify voltage, rotation, port arrangement, software calibration or a later production revision.

Start with complete machine identity
The same excavator model can use different parts across serial-number ranges, production years and regional specifications. Send a clear photo of the machine serial plate whenever possible. For engine, fuel and cooling parts, include the engine model. For pumps, travel motors, swing motors and control valves, include the assembly nameplate. For electrical components, include system voltage and clear connector photos.

Photograph the old part for configuration checks
One front photo is rarely enough for a configuration-sensitive part. Take one overall image, one close-up of every label or stamped number, and additional views showing plugs, ports, mounting holes, shaft ends and hose connections.
